Tax Compliance Advisor
Description
Reporting directly to the Tax Compliance Manager of the Tax Division, you are a key member of the tax team to assist with compliance projections and other important tax-related administrative tasks. Preparation and completion of the work of the Tax Division, including communication with the CRA and other tax authorities (verbal or written), information research, and preparation of personal tax returns and preparation of trust returns. Developing and sustaining excellent client relationships are priorities for this position.
Maintaining a positive relationship with clients and the ONBusiness team.
Key role and main responsibilities as detailed below:
· Prepare simple corporate, trust, and personal tax returns
· Assist with the preparation of complex trust and estate tax returns, personal tax returns, and other tax forms/schedules.
· Prepare supporting working papers and other tax analysis as requested by the Tax Division
· Liaise directly with clients and the CRA on tax engagements
· Initiate direct communications with the CRA and other tax authorities as required
· Assist with the preparation of tax submissions and responses as required by the CRA or other tax authorities
· Assist with obtaining authorization with the CRA on behalf of our clients
· Research and follow up on various items/client issues with CRA on behalf of the Tax Department
· Consultation with members of the team to resolve issues raised, where necessary
· Obtaining good knowledge of ONBusiness team members and services
· Reporting issues, concerns, and results to the owners on a timely basis regarding 1) the Tax Division and 2) the ONBusiness concept
· Supporting and promoting the ONBusiness name and concept.
Qualifications/Skills, Experience, and Personal Attributes:
· Accounting or Business degree (preferred)
· Have hands-on public practice (1 to 2 years) experience in performance and completion of files for accounting, corporation tax, & personal tax for small to mid-sized clients
· Experienced in general tax research, consulting and compliance
· Ability to communicate general tax information and concepts to diverse audiences
· Excellent written and spoken communication skills
· Ability to identify tax consulting opportunities
· Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
· Good knowledge of personal and corporate tax
· Good knowledge of accounting
· IT skills – Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Outlook), CaseWare, and Taxprep
· A positive attitude with a desire to exceed expectations;
· Ability to work independently
· Ability to meet deadlines
· Excellent time management skills (organization & prioritization)
· Maintaining positive relationships with the ONBusiness team and clients
· Maintain good knowledge of ONBusiness team members and services
