Description
We are looking for a senior level bookkeeper to join our growing Small Business Division. You will be mentored and responsible for assisting and taking ownership of full-cycle accounting for multiple clients; juggling multiple tasks and deadlines, personal income tax preparation, and ONBusiness tasks that arise during the year as directed by the Small Business Management team.
As a senior bookkeeper you are responsible for recording and maintaining various client business’ financial transactions, such as purchases, expenses, sales revenue, invoices, and payments. The senior bookkeeper will record financial data into general ledgers, which are used to produce the balance sheet and income statement. The senior bookkeeper is a self-starter who can lead by example and not afraid to take initiative. Generally responsible for overseeing the first six steps of the Accounting Cycle, while the last two are typically taken care of by an accountant.
Responsibilities:
- Track project budgets utilizing multiple currencies;
- Prepare and submit GST filing and posting and other source deductions;
- Other accounting duties, as required;
- Process full cycle Payroll for various companies using a variety of software from QuickBooks, Sage 50, PayWorks, Ceridian, etc.,
- Responsible to process ROE’s, T4’s, etc. for assigned clients;
- Bank Reconciliations;
- Full Cycle Accounting (A/P and A/R);
- Help with month end and year end closing files;
- Process A/P for proper coding and reconciliation of the account and works closely with A/R and collections;
- GL account reconciliations and month end journal entries into GL;
- Prepare year end working papers for financial statement preparation
- Performing duties at client premises, as directed (i.e., preparing PST and GST returns, matching packing slips, preparing cheques for signature, etc.);
- T1 preparation;
- T4 Preparation;
- Advanced working knowledge of Practice;
- Prepare year end working papers for audits
- The position requires you to report to the Small Business Support Manager
- Mentors the accounting clerks with bookkeeping;
- Prepares correspondence on bookkeeping matters;
- Exceptional interpersonal and oral communication skills;
Qualifications/Skills, Experience, and Personal Attributes:
- 5 plus years progressive bookkeeping or accounting experience in a public accounting office environment with multi-currency tracking considered a strong asset;
- CPB (or equivalent experience with some formal training in any of these programs) having hands-on experience in full-cycle accounting
- Possess an accounting Diploma/Degree (or equivalent education/experience)
- Solid knowledge of, and skills in, personal tax (intermediate level);
- Solid knowledge of, and skills in, accounting & bookkeeping (advanced level)- Proficient working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
- Have significant verifiable experience with QuickBooks, Sage and Xero software
- Great working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and especially Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams);
- Have extensive experience with payroll and Employment Standards and EFT transmittal, etc.;
- Strong communication and presentation skills (verbal, written, electronic);
- Highly proficient keyboarding skills;
- Demonstrate focus, positive attitude, professionalism, and teamwork with a desire to exceed expectations;
- Ability to meet deadlines - Excellent time management skills (strong organization & prioritization);
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with high degree of independence;
- Advanced knowledge of A/P, A/R, general ledger and payroll procedures;
- Willingness and ability to learn and adapt to change;
- Proven ability to work within an active team;
- Very reliable and have their own transportation.
